The new modern bedroom is finished!

Finally!  Kassandra has finished her bedroom with the new modern decor.  And she thinks it looks fabulous.

We started by hanging the new mirror.  It looks phenomenal:

And we also placed a new minimalist nightstand.  Kassandra barely had space to put her stuff:

There is a "naugthy" box on the bottom and some condom boxes too...

And then, some details to live up the new dresser:

Love the nail polishes!

Next, the chandelier and the new lamp sconces; this time with a white, modern design instead of candles:

And finally, decorations.  Since the walls were bare, we needed some artwork to make them look cozy.  We started by some inspirational ballet posters:

Kassandra loved the simplicity and the style of the font.  She wanted to hang Paris pictures, but finally she decided to put up these instead.  The room looks lovely at night:

For the left wall, she chose a pas de deux picture:

And finally, the room is finished!

Kassandra is very happy with the changes, and so am I :)

New furnishings for the living room

I found Kassandra today very busy, hanging up some pictures in her newly finished living room.

"What are you up to today?"

"Good morning, dear.  As you can see, I am dressing up my walls.  Since we are so fond of cinema, I have chosen to decorate with some movie posters."

"What have you got for display?"

"Well, in the first place, some classics that we adore.  Dracula, as it could not be any other way.  I absolutely love Coppola's movie!  It may not be completely faithful to the book, but I so enjoy the cinematography, the costumes, and the absinthe scene... Oh, that is one of the best I have seen in any film!  And Blade Runner, another of out favorite classics.  But of course, something more modern:  The Justice League.  The actor that plays Superman is one of my favorites.  He looks so handsome in that picture, don't you think?"

"Why, yes, of course.  I assume you have seen "The Witcher" as well?"

"But of course!  I cannot wait for December to start the second season!"

"And this other painting over here?"

"That is the lovely Nadja, from "What we do in the Shadows".  She is a riot; if she was real I am sure we would be great friends.  That picture is featured in the opening credits of the show."

"That is so fun!  This place looks really neat to have a movie marathon afternoon."

 "Why, thank you, dear!"

Little details

Sometimes life can get hectic, and you have some small projects that get pushed to the back burner, and never finished.  I had one of those projects since before last Christmas!  So I was very happy when I finally ended it.

It is a very simple wood tray that I made out of popsicle sticks.  My coworker Carlos, who is a darling, cut the sticks for me.  I stained it and put some candles on it for a cozy look in the living room.

The handles I bought from Tienda de Casitas; the round candles are from Art of Mini and the pillar candles were a gift from Nalladris.  They are all snow white as if they were just new from a shop.  I do not like to display already burnt candles - not even in real life! - so the wicks are white too.

I love the center table!  It has a sliding drawer under the glass that you can decorate with stuff.  I (oops, my mistake, I mean Kassandra, of course!) put two black and white ballet photographs on it.  The lower drawer also opens.  There are some cutlery sets, placemats and coasters on it.

Also, I made two vintage posters for the museum scene.  This time it's Titanic memorabilia.  You all know that Kassandra was a passanger of Titanic, so naturally anything Titanic interests her:

The largest one depicts an add for tickets sales of the sailing from New York to Europe - that naturally never took place.  I love how they look!

Kassandra's Victorian hobbies

One of the things that I admire most about Kassandra is that her mind is always open to learn or explore new things.  Or sometimes, to rekindle some old interest of her and give it an space in her life again.

One of the things that has called my attention is that the console she keeps in the parlor is constantly changing in decorations.  What started simply as a piece of forniture to decorate, now is a cabinet of curiosities - or, as she calls it, a table of curiosities:

I asked her what a cabinet of curiosities was, and she explained that they were collection of objects that did not have their categorical boundaries defined when they were found.  Now we would place them in natural history, geology, archeology, relics, antiquities... The people who could afford to buy them and store them, made them into collections that were the precursors of modern museums.  They would put them into cabinets to show their friends, and they were a kind of stentation and status symbol.

She has been acquiring some objects that she displays proudly in her table:

The two domes with taxonomy items, as well as the bats and butterflies posters, the bat in the shadow box and the paperweights come from Easy Print and Cut; Kassandra says the lady that makes them, Ana, is very talented and oh so lovely.  The paperweights feature flowers and an Ammonites fossil.

The shadow box with the strange skeletons comes from Ever After Miniatures.  The dollhouse she made herself with a kit from Miniaturas M y E, and the tiny furniture is from SDK Miniatures.

The two shadow boxes with strange animals' fossils also come from Ever After Miniatures; and remember the papyrus collection she got and the Anubis statue?  She says she is wating for an Egyptian mural to be delivered to her; I can't wait to see it.

She also confided in me that she has recently acquired an stereoscope and it is due to arrive soon. Where  does she find all these things I do not know...
