1/144 scale furniture

My mom is very excited about her new micro mini dollhouse!  She has already ordered furniture to decorate it; and I have ordered too some kits for her - and one for me as well ;)

Pic taken by SDK Miniatures
I just love SDK Miniatures so much! Their kits are delightful and so easy to do.  I just saw their English Country Cottage Series.  I definitely need the Dove Cottage in my life!

It will be so much fun to do these kits!  I am only keeping the drawer chest to add to my dollhouse. The rest are for my mom.  Well, maybe I will keep a couple of mirrors too...

Micro mini dollhouse for my mother

My mom has an ordinary cabinet that she used to showcase jewelry in our of her scenes.  The scene, a fancy ladies shop, has changed recently with new furniture and decorations, and she did not like the cabinet there anymore.  Since the cabinet has a couple of glass doors, she had the idea of transforming it into a 1/144 scale dollhouse.

She wanted to buy the furniture and start decorating right away, but I told her maybe it would be nice to put some wallpapers and some walls on it, and I offered to do it for her, as she has zero hability for this kind of thing.  She happily accepted.

It did not take me long to design some pretty wallpapers with the help of Vectoria Designs papers.  I submitted everything for approval, and today I finally put it together:

Upstairs there will be a bedroom and a sitting room - kind of like a suit, that is why there is no extra wall added there.  Downstairs a kitchen and a living room.  I made the extra wall with balsa wood, whose edge I painted with a red marker to imitate the mahogany of the cabinet.

I am very happy how it turned out.  I know she will have fun adding furniture!

1:144 scale dollhouse finished!

My vampire tenant was very happy today to show me she has finished her dollhouse.  The gothic chairs are made and put in their final place in front of the fireplace:

She even added a couple of rugs to the rooms.  They look more cozy now.  And the dollhouse is finally finished, except for the outside paint, that my tenant says she will do in due time.

She says doing this dollhouse was so much fun she is thinking in buying another bigger one, with more rooms to decorate.  She has her eye already in one...

Also, this beauty arrived this week from LDelaney:

A lovely open book with the drawing of a Kraken fighting a ship.  She says she has become very interested lately in issues regarding the ocean.

1:144 scale furniture finished!

My vampire tenant was ecstatic today.  She has finished her kits from SDK Miniatures over the weekend, and she was very proud when she showed them to me, already in their final places on the mini dollhouse:

She is so, so happy with them!  She says they were easier to do than she thought, and that they only took an afternoon of work.  She now displays the mini dollhouse proudly in her parlor:

She says she still needs to buy a couple of chairs for the living room, to put in front of the fireplace.  I agree, they will look fantastic.  She says she cannot wait to have them.

And I cannot wait to give her the lantern I am making for her. Very soon...

Dollhouse miniatures arriving!

I get so happy when I open my mail box and find little treasures buried amongst the letters!  Today a lot of minis arrived, and I am so excited about them.

First, hardware.  A bag of drawer pullers to decorate some boxes I made, and hinges to see if I can help my mom to fix a 1:144 scale dollhouse that she bought already made and whose door insists on falling off.

Then, a chest box with parfum bottles and jewelry.  It is somehow cute, but I want to try and make something really special with it that I wanted to have and could not buy, because the ones I saw were reaaaaaally expensive.  I hope I can manage it, but if I don't I know I won't have lost much money on it.  It cost less than $5.

And finally, something really special for my vampire tenant.  Gothic furniture for her 1:144 scale dollhouse!

She says she cannot wait to start assembling the kits.  They are very tiny, and they are going to be a challenge, but I am very looking forward to see how they turn out.  They come from SDK Miniatures.

Little dollhouse finished!

My vampire tenant is ecstatic that the project has finished so succesfully.  She wants to share the pictures of the final moments of construction.

The ceiling was finally painted a soft brown color, and the roof glued in place, along with a decorative triangular piece.

Then, a decorative arch was added to the front door.

Then, a decorative piece was placed on the roof.

While they both settled, the roof of the arch was glued and left to dry.

And finally, it was put in place.

And the house is finished!!

She is still not sure about painting the outside.  She will think about it.  But she has finally decided that she will display it in the parlor.  It is already there, while she peruses the internet for some pieces of furniture to fill it up with.

Yay!

Building a 1:144 dollhouse kit

My vampire tenant is building a dollhouse!

She has told me that it is a costume in her country that when a woman marries, she starts building a dollhouse that resembles the real house she lives in.  She says that she has not been able to find a castle that resembles her home, so she has opted instead for a little dollhouse, like the one I am renting to her.

She says she found the materials in a shop called MiniaturasMyE, and she is very happy with them.  She even shared with me some pictures:

The kit still in the matrix
She said that even though it came with nothing to decorate, she is definitely adding stuff to the inside.  So she started by designing and cutting her own wallpaper:

The paper comes from Vectoria Designs.  She loves her Steampunk collections!  She says it was difficult to cut all the little windows, but she is happy how that turned out.  She glued the paper to the walls, and then the walls to the base and to themselves:

See the little shatters in the window?
The shatters were supposed to be put at the end of the project, but my lady said that she preferred to add them while the house was not having any material protruding, in case she needed force to make the glue stick.  That was not necessary, though, the glue is fantastic.  It came from The Miniature Garden.

Then she added the first floor base:

And then the roof:

She is currently deciding which color she is going to paint the ceiling, so that is all for now.  I cannot wait to see it finished!

She says she is still unsure about were she is going to put it.  Probably in the parlor, but we will see...
